Staff Report
J.F. Hurley Family YMCA broke ground Thursday afternoon on the new Buck Hurley Youth Center.
The Y announced in May that it would build an addition that would include a second gymnasium and a relocated teen center.
The 10,226-square-foot expansion will be called the Buck Hurley Youth Center, named for the late son of Carolyn and Gordon Hurley.
Sandy Flowers, Hurley YMCA executive director, said Thursday that officials anticipate the youth center will be finished in February 2008.
The addition will be built behind the existing gymnasium and extend toward the outdoor track, which may have to be slightly modified.
Jim and Gordon Hurley were special guests at the ceremony, with Donnie Clemment, YMCA board president, presiding.
YMCA day camp children provided singing entertainment.
