Those named to the chancellor’s list were full-time undergraduates with cumulative grade-point averages of at least 3.65. They are:

Wingate honor lists
The following area students have been named to spring semester academic lists at Wingate University in Wingate.
Meghan Galloway of China Grove and Mark Rollins of Salisbury were named to the presidents list for earning grade-point averages of 3.8 or higher on at least 12 course hours with no grade below a C.
Those named to the dean’s list earned grade-point averages of 3.3 or higher on at least 12 course hours with no grade below a C. They are Alexander Whitley and Wesley Allen of Rockwell, Joshua Benton of Gold Hill and Brittany Honeycutt of Salisbury.
RCCC reaccreditation
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College officials has been reaccredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association for another 10-year period.
The action followed a comprehensive institutional effectiveness monitoring report submitted by the college last April. The commission also lifted a warning given to the college last June.
According to RCCC President Richard L. Brownell, “This outcome is very deserving. Many dedicated faculty and staff have worked very hard to make this happen. The college’s normal two-year cycle of program reviews was condensed into 18 months, and the entire college put great efforts into identifying program outcomes and evaluating the effectiveness of all of our programs and services.
“All this effort came on the heels of Herculean efforts required for the college to respond to the huge displaced worker phenomenon which included the closing of Pillowtex ńthe largest industrial layoff in North Carolina history.”
RCCC won a first-place National Department of Labor Workforce Development award for instructional and support programs it developed in response to workers laid off by Pillowtex as well as other unemployed citizens in the region.
Brownell added, “I am pleased with the outstanding work that our faculty and staff have done in both workforce development and in the institutional effectiveness program review process. They are most deserving of this reaffirmation outcome. I am confident that their dedicated efforts will bring the college and our community continuing success.”
South FFA places
Members of South Rowan High School’s Future Farmers of America received two first places and other awards at the recent 78th annual N.C. FFA Convention on the N.C. State University campus in Raleigh.
The Agriculture Mechanics team of Jacob Brandt, Chuckie Bass, Robert Martin, and Eric Corriher placed first in the state competition. They will compete at National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October.
The other first place was John Hoffner’s in the Dairy Production Placement Proficiency Award. Also, Chuckie Bass placed second in the Wildlife Management Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award.
South’s other two competing teams were the Floriculture Team of Carrie Hoffner, Meredith Oakley, Eli Brandt, and Bethany Winecoff and the Tool Identification Team of Rebekah Moore, Savannah Goodnight, Cody Bates, and Ryan Hopkins.
Meaghan Bethea also competed in Prepared Public Speaking.
Jimmy Ritchie received the Honorary State FFA Degree for his service to the South Rowan FFA, and Bruce Miller received an award for his service to the N.C. FFA Alumni.
Also, the South Rowan FFA had 100 percent membership this year.
