UNC med school grad
Melinda Gail Abernethy-Smith graduated May 13 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine with a doctor of medicine and master’s in public health degrees.
She will complete her residency in OBGYN at the University of Michigan Hospital Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Her husband, Kevin Raymond Smith, also graduated from the UNC-CH School of Medicine May 13 and will be doing his residency in medicine-pediatrics at the same hospital.
A 1996 graduate of Salisbury High School, Abernethy-Smith received a bachelor of science degree in anthropology from UNC-CH in 2000. She is the daughter of Susan Waller Abernethy of Salisbury and the late Charles Leslie Abernethy.
Two local students received degrees during May 13 commencement exercises at Meredith College in Raleigh.
Mary-Grace Yeager Moon of Mooresville graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree.
Katherine DeBeer van Wagenberg of Salisbury graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree.
