The Writers’ Workshop is sponsoring the following classes for beginning and experienced writers at the Jewish Community Center in Shalom Park, Charlotte. – Aug. 4: “Grant Writing Simplified.” The basics of grant writing will be taught, such as ensuring a match between your mission and the funder and how to write a strong proposal and narrative. Individuals may bring a two-page proposal summary to the class for review. Saturday, 12:30-5:30 p.m. $75 nonmembers/$70 workshop members.
– Aug. 18: Poetry workshop with Dannye Romine Powell. Poets will learn techniques for shaping and revising their work, and may bring three poems to the class for evaluation. Powell is an award-winning and a columnist at the Charlotte Observer. Meets Saturday, 12:30-5:30 pm. $75/$70.
– Aug. 25: “Writing and Revising Fiction” with Karen Ackerson. The class will receive information such as creating memorable characters, honest dialogue and sense of place. Discussion will include examples of award-winning fiction, and students may bring five pages to the class for discussion. Ackerson is senior editor at The Renbourne Editorial Agency. Saturday, 12:30-5:30 p.m. $75/$70.
