Staff report
Salisbury Police are searching for a robber who held the clerk at Kangaroo Express at bay with her own scissors on Christmas Day.
The incident occurred Tuesday at 2270 Statesville Blvd. Robbers have hit the store several times this year.
The robber was described as a black male in his 20s, wearing a heavy, red, hooded coat with baggy blue jeans. He is about 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds.
The clerk told police the man walked around the store counter, and she opened the register.
The clerk had been restocking shelves and cutting plastic with scissors. The suspect grabbed the scissors from her pocket, according to a police report.
Other than taking the clerk’s scissors, the man didn’t display a weapon and didn’t indicate he had one. The suspect grabbed the money in the register, seven packs of Newport cigarettes and a cordless phone.
The report said he told the clerk to follow him. When he went out the door, she locked the door behind him.
She was not injured.
