Whew!
You can take a deep breath now ó the holidays are over.
Now it’s time to relax and celebrate Old Christmas at the Old Stone House.
The 23rd annual event is set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at the historic home off U.S. 52 in Granite Quarry.
Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children and half-price for museum members.
Visitors will be transported back in time to a remembrance of the holidays in colonial times ó a much simpler celebration.
Visitors will be able to sample their “favorite things” ó Robbie Cochran’s vinegar chicken and Kaye Brown Hirst’s potato soup.
There’ll be hot cider and apple butter, too. You’ll also have the chance to dip candles.
Tours of the house will take place throughout the weekend. The house will be decorated very simply with fresh greenery from the property.
AlThere will be musket firings and the return of woodworkers and a blacksmith.
“These guys were big hits last year,” Hirst says.
The always faithful members of the Yadkin Valley Folklore Society will provide music.
About 50 volunteers will work at the site during the weekend, Hirst says. Middle-school students will lead children’s games from the era.
The newest is volunteer is Cole Creel, the son of Dwayne and Tricia Creel, the museum’s education coordinator, born Dec. 10.
Sponsors for the event include: the Brown-Fisher Family Association; Ramsay, Burgin, Smith, Architects, Inc.; Edward and Susan Norvell; Cato and Salisbury Mall; Cato at Freeland Drive; and Food Lion Corporation.
