UNION GROVE ó A Salisbury man died late Sunday in a head-on collision in northern Iredell County. His wife and another driver were hospitalized.
Paul Eugene Mowry, 52, of 2705 Mooresville Road, died at the scene of the wreck on N.C. 901 near Union Grove.
According to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper J.S. Fox, Mowry was driving his 1996 Toyota Corolla, with his wife, Ramona, 51, as a passenger east on N.C. 901 just before 7 p.m.
Jerry Wayne Hepler, 58, of Statesville, was driving west in a 1995 Chevrolet pickup and crossed the center line. He collided with the Toyota.
Fox said the two vehicles collided driver’s side to driver’s side. Both vehicles were knocked off the roadway.
“Hepler’s vehicle overturned on the right side of the road onto its top,” the trooper said.
Fox said the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether to file charges. None had been filed Monday afternoon. Fox said neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the accident.
Hepler suffered broken facial bones. Trooper Fox said he would be undergoing surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Ramona Mowry will also have surgery to repair her broken ankle at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.
