ROCKWELL ó The town will have to dish out extra money for what was expected to be a $1-million water line extension project that ran over projected costs.
Salisbury-Rowan Utilities Engineer Jeff Jones informed aldermen at their monthly meeting that the Sunshine Manufacturing water line extension project has exceeded its budget by $126,779.84.
The expansion project was established to create better water flow and pressure to underserved portions of the town.
The town will pay the overage to Gilbert Engineering Co. of Statesville, the company doing the construction.
The last payment to Gilbert was $46,640.09.
“They wanted to pay this amount out of our yearly $50,000 allotment we get each year for water-sewer extensions,” explained Town Clerk Sue Morton.
She added that $47,949.20 remaining in the account will be needed to pay F&M $9,006 for an easement; REA Contracting invoices, which amount to $1,200, for F&M Bank; and $1,600 for the Fesperman Produce parking lot.
In other matters board members:
– Threw their support behind the city of Salisbury for its Salisbury-Rowan United Action Agenda against gang violence.
Salisbury adopted a goal to address gang activity through gang awareness, education, information sharing and enforcement.
– Re-adopted a resolution of consideration for future annexation. The town has one year following the approval of the resolution of consideration to approve a resolution of intent to annex certain areas.
The discussion of annexation first came up last year around this time.
– Approved replacing tile on the dining room floor of the Community Building.
Alderman Bill Ridenhour submitted quotes for replacement of the tile from Grove Supply for $1,941.22 and Putnam’s Carpet for $2,636.31.
The board accepted the lower bid from Grove Supply.
– Allotted $500 to repair the front door of town hall. The door, Morton said, swings both ways when opened and lets in cold air.
