A 76-year-old woman fought with an intruder who broke into her Crosswinds apartment late Friday night, authorities said.
The woman told police she was sitting by her sliding glass patio door around midnight when a man knocked, asking for Irene.She told the man he had the wrong apartment. Soon after, he pried the door open. The woman tried to push him back out the door, but he forced his way inside.
Salisbury Police Department investigators are looking for a suspect described as a black male in his 20s who stands around 5-foot-6 with a slender build and has medium skin tone and a thin mustache.
According to the woman, the suspect was wearing dress pants, a shiny bomber-style jacket and a knit cap with blue, black and white stripes.
The suspect hit the woman on the forehead and on the hand with a crow bar, a police report said.
He pushed her to the couch and demanded money. She kept screaming, so he put his hand over her mouth.
During the scuffle, the woman managed to get the crow bar away from the suspect, hitting him twice on the head.
She went to where she keeps her money and gave the man some cash. He asked for credit cards. When she told him she didn’t have any, the suspect took her wallet.
