A Rockwell teen used his membership at the East Rowan YMCA as an opportunity to take items from the locker rooms, authorities said.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Stephen Joseph Schwarz, 16, of 1060 Claire’s Place, with misdemeanor larceny.
The YMCA staff suspected Schwarz of the thefts, which occurred between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31. Investigators developed the teen as a suspect and subsequently charged him said Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.
Investigators believed the teen was looking for money; however, no stolen items were found on him at the time of his Friday arrest.
He’s been released from the Rowan County Detention Center under $300 secured bond.
