Staff report
It took only minutes for fire to destroy a mobile home Wednesday afternoon in the 900 block of Dunns Mountain Church Road.
No one was at home at the time of the fire, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. Investigators hadn’t determined a cause by late afternoon, Union Assistant Fire Chief Rick Waller said.
Waller said the Rowan County Fire Marshal’s office will conduct an investigation to determine the official cause.
He estimated there was little to salvage from the fire, saying the home was “pretty much destroyed.”
Firefighters from Union, Salisbury, Faith and Granite Quarry extinguished the fire quickly, Waller said.
When firefighters got to the mobile home, they saw flames shooting from the roof and heavy smoke, he said.
The Rowan County Rescue Squad also responded.
