KANNAPOLIS ó A 52-year-old Concord woman died early today when her car collided with a tractor-trailer.
Randall Murphy, of 530 Hermitage Drive, Concord, died instantly, according to Trooper E.K. Wooten of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Brantley Road and Old Concord-Salisbury Road in Cabarrus County.
Wooten said Murphy was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry east on Brantley Road and failed to stop for the stop sign.
The vehicle struck the undercarriage of a tractor-trailer driven by Eddie Arnette, 42, of Chris Lane in Kannapolis.
Owned by AC Widenhouse of Concord, the tractor was pulling a tanker full of heated liquid asphalt.
Wooten said the car hit the back axles of the tractor and then caught under the tanker.
Skid marks which measured 33 feet indicated she attempted to stop at the last second.
Arnette, the truck driver, was not injured, but the trooper described him as shaken up.
The tanker remained intact. There was no spillage and no fire.
Wooten said Murphy’s family members indicated she had been visiting in Raleigh and had apparently returned home and was going to work.
