KANNAPOLIS ó Fresh flowers adorned the nameplate of Kannapolis City Council member Richard Anderson Monday night.
Anderson died Nov. 16 from complications due to cancer.
Starting today, the city will take applications to fill the vacant council seat. Citizens may apply until 5 p.m. Dec. 4 in the city offices.
A committee made up of City Manager Mike Legg and council members Gene McCombs and Roger Hass will screen the applicants. The entire council will interview the finalists.
Council members commended Kannapolis Police Chief Woody Chavis for the reverent and exceptional funeral procession for Anderson.
State law requires that City Council members be at least 21 years old and live in the incorporated limits of the city. The person appointed to fill the vacancy will serve the two year unexpired term until the November 2011 election. This vacancy will be filled by City Council.
Applications can be picked up from the city offices at 246 Oak Ave., Kannapolis, or downloaded from the city of Kannapolis Web site: www.cityofkannapolis.com, or can be mailed upon request.
