Two-story house off Mooresville Road damaged by smoke

A house off Mooresville Road sustained smoke damage Saturday night after fire broke out in the basement.
Salisbury firefighters responded to the call at 1611 Second Street around 8:40 p.m.
The owner of the two-story wood frame home told firefighters he smelled smoke and went to the basement to check it out, and encountered heavy smoke..
The family immediately called 911 and left the house.
Firefighters were on the scene until around 10:30 p.m.
Battalion Chief Bo Geter said the fire was contained to the basement, but smoke spread through the house.
The family planned to stay with relatives.
The cause of the fire is yet undetermined.
Locke Fire Department and the Rowan Rescue Squad were called out to assist. Other county fire departments, Cleveland, Granite Quarry and Spencer were called to cover the city stations.
Police briefly shut down Mooresville Road and assisted the fire department rerouting traffic around the area.
