Kim Tizzard of the Autism Society will speak on “The Autism Journey” at a mini-conference in the Ketner Building at Catawba College on March 14, for families and educators of children ages birth through 5.
Tizzard, who is the parent of a child with autism, will be speaking at one of four breakout sessions scheduled for 9 a.m.
Other sessions will include a parent from the Down Syndrome Association of Charlotte speaking on “The Down Syndrome Journey;” Jennifer Rothman from the National Alliance on Mental Illness speaking on “Mental Health Issues in Young Children” and screening/referral services featuring representatives of the Children’s Developmental Service Agency and the Rowan-Salisbury Schools Exceptional Children’s Program.
The keynote speaker for the mini-conference ó hosted by the Rowan County Local Interagency Coordinating Council ó will be Dr. Joseph Stegman of the Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics of the Carolinas. Stegman, who is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m., is board certified in developmental and behavioral pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.
The mini-conference will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. and end at noon. Door prizes, family support and networking opportunities will be provided.
