CHINA GROVE ó Authorities have charged a third man in the June 19 attempted murder of Dewthey Walker.
Walker was beaten and shot following a dispute with a woman.
Averi Tyrell Barnes, 18, of 565 Kirk St., is charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. Police say Barnes shot Walther, of Kannapolis, after two other men beat him.
Police have already charged DeJuan Adkins, 23, of 709 Harry St., and Michael Angelo Bost, 23, of 646 Harry St. with attempted murder.
China Grove Police Officer D.P. Walther has said officers responded to a call about gunshots being fired in the Westside community of China Grove sometime after midnight on June 19. Walker was found on the street.
Witnesses said Walker had a domestic argument or fight with a woman and three men intervened. Adkins was the woman’s nephew.
Warrants allege Adkins and Bost used their hands and feet in the assault.
Barnes remained in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $750,000 bond Wednesday night.
