A brief storm that whipped tree limbs and other debris through Rowan County left a tree down on Interstate 85 Saturday evening.
The tree fell on the southbound lane near the Yadkin River Bridge, said John Sharpe, Rowan EMS shift supervisor.
The downed tree blocked the interstate before emergency personnel were able to remove it, according to emergency dispatch communications.
According to Sgt. S.L. Pace, with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a car traveling by when the tree fell suffered major damage. Pace was unsure if there were any injuries. He said Trooper D.H. Deal is investigating.
Salisbury Fire Station No. 3 reported a tree fell on a power line on West Horah Street. No injuries were reported in that incident around 5 p.m.
Duke Energy reported 95 power outages in Rowan County at 7:45 pm. and that number swelled to 225 at 9 p.m.
