Lutheran Services for the Aging has received word from the state that its certificate of need applications to build two nursing homes in Forsyth County have been approved.
Ted W. Goins Jr., president of the Salisbury-based health-care provider said, “We are thrilled to announce that we can now move forward with our efforts to expand proven, faith-based services in Forsyth County. We are very grateful to the people throughout the state who have supported us in this effort.”
Lutheran Services for the Aging took over the operation and management of what is now the Lutheran Home-Winston-Salem on Walkertown Road in June 2001, purchasing the home in December 2006. Built as a private rest home in 1953, much of the facility is in need of replacement.
It is Lutheran Services for the Aging’s intent to split the 217 beds of the existing nursing home between two new homes over the next three years. One home will be located in Clemmons on land adjacent to Elms at Tanglewood, an assisted living residence purchased by Lutheran Services for the Aging in December 2008. Two locations in eastern Forsyth County are now under consideration for the other home.
Lutheran Services for the Aging, ranked 64th among the 100 largest not-for-profit providers of aging services in the United States, also operates nursing homes in Salisbury, Albemarle, and Hickory; retirement communities in Arden and Salisbury; and an adult day service program in Salisbury.
