MOORESVILLE (AP) ó North Carolina state investigators will look into the death of a 91-year-old Alzheimer’s patient who was found dead in a field after wandering away from an Iredell County assisted living home.
The Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday that officials at Summit Place said it appeared that Joseph Clay Johnston walked away during a Mother’s Day event Sunday.
Johnston was found about 400 yards from the facility Sunday night.
Jim Jones of the state Department of Health and Human Services said the agency will conduct an investigation after the police finish their probe. Jones said inspectors had been in the home last week for an annual inspection, but the results are pending.
