Some tips for halting the spread of flu

To prevent the transmission of respiratory infections, including influenza and to help you and your family, follow these important preventive measures provided by Rowan Regional Medical Center:
– Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
– Immediately dispose of the tissue in the nearest trash can, and then sanitize your hands.
– If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into the bend of your elbow. At least this way, the germs will not be on your hands which then end up on every surface you touch.
– When coughing or sneezing, be sure to turn your head away from others.
– Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way as they enter through your mucus membranes.
– If you see your family member, friend or co-worker not following the appropriate coughing and sneezing practices, educate them on the correct method.
– Use disinfectant daily to wipe down shared computer keyboards and telephones. Clean more frequently, as needed.
– High touch surfaces such as door knobs, light switches, etc. can also benefit from daily cleaning with the hospital-approved disinfectant.
If you would like to assign someone in your department or work area to daily wipe down these surfaces, please feel free to do so.
And remember, it’s best to stay home if you are sick to prevent the spread of flu to others.
