Smoke in the J.W. Hood Building on the campus of Livingstone College was enough to drive the staff outdoors.
College spokesman State Alexander said sometime around 9 a.m. Wednesday he saw smoke coming from the vents in one of the rooms.
The building was evacuated and the fire department was called to investigate.
No fire was spotted. The Salisbury Fire Department responded to the scene to check the building.
