Students’ proficiency in Rowan County and Kannapolis increased during the 2008-2009 school year, according to the latest state ABC accountability program results.
Nineteen of 34 Rowan-Salisbury schools ó nine more than a year ago ó met expected rates of growth, according to data released Tuesday by the Department of Public Instruction.
Of the system’s schools, 56 met their expected growth targets, compared to 33 percent a year ago.
“I am extremely proud of the progress we are making and I know that we have the right team in place for continued success,” said Dr. Jim Emerson, chairman of the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education.
The Kannapolis City Schools made 100 percent of their goals as a system, with six of the eight schools making Adequate Yearly Progress. The two schools that didn’t ó Kannapolis Middle and Kannapolis Intermediate ó came within one goal of making AYP.
The results will be made official after the State Board of Education approves them on Aug. 6.
