Police Unity Tour to honor officers killed in line of duty

A group with the Police Unity Tour will be riding through Rowan County to raise awareness for law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
The group of more than 1,000 bicyclists will travel to the area on Monday and will continue on to Washington, D.C. a week later.
The cyclists will start at 2 p.m. at the Rowan County line with an escort by area law enforcement agencies including Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the Salisbury, China Grove and Landis police departments. The cyclists will travel north on U.S. 29 to the Rowan County Courthouse.
A ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. to honor local officers who have died in the line of duty.
The ceremony will include an honor guard with presentation of colors. The Salisbury Police Department chaplain will give the invocation and the Rowan Sheriff’s chaplain will deliver the message. A member of the Police Unity Tour group will explain what they do and there will be a roll call for all officers and a closing prayer.
The public is invited to attend.
The tour will end May 12.
