CHINA GROVE ó Police are investigating an allegation that a veteran Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy assaulted an in-law.
Sgt. Brett Bass, interim chief of the China Grove Police Department, confirmed that officers are investigating the allegation against Detective Linda Porter.
Bass said China Grove officers responded to a call at the Mary Street residence of Linda and Buddy Porter some time last week.
While China Grove responded as back up, the town department has been asked by the Rowan Sheriff’s Office to take the lead in the investigation.
Bass declined to elaborate on the incident, saying that officers have set up an interview later this week with the alleged victim.
Porter said Wednesday that if anybody was assaulted, it was her.
“I was at home minding my own business ó the woman came busting into my house,” Porter said, adding “I never touched her or anybody else.”
Linda Porter is known for her work dealing with child abuse investigations.
The woman alleging the assault is current or former in-law of the Porters.
Bass said the investigation should be completed next week and that they will consult with the district attorney’s office about possible charges.
