This weekend, more than 100 motorcycles will roll through Salisbury headed to the W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center.
Some 150 riders will arrive at 2:30 p.m. for the Richard Petty King of the Road Charity Ride benefitting the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
The riders will stop by the VA Medical Center, 1601 Brenner Ave., to visit with veterans and have refreshments. Their journey will begin at former Richard Petty Enterprises in Level Cross, with the only stop-over at the Hefner VA Medical Center.
After their visit with the veterans, the motorcyclists will ride past the N.C. State Veterans Home, also on the campus of the Hefner VA Medical Center, said Carol Waters, with the Medical Center public affairs office.
They will ride out on Statesville Boulevard and head to Richard Petty Motorsports in Statesville for closing ceremonies, Waters said.
The opening ceremony will include a visit at the Petty race shop and will feature appearances by other NASCAR drivers.
The Paralyzed Veterans of America was founded 62 years ago by service members who suffered spinal cord injuries and found few solutions to the challenges they faced.
