CHINA GROVE ó Officials from six Rowan County towns gathered this morning for a ceremonial launching of Rowan Express.
The bus service will link the Salisbury and Kannapolis-Concord transit systems with morning and afternoon routes.
Kannapolis Mayor Bob Misenheimer said the service will go a long way to connect residents to services they need. He said many in the Kannapolis area regularly visit the Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury and many Rowan residents seek service at CMC-NorthEast Medical Center.
“People without transportation are severely handicapped in our society,” Misenheimer said. “The more transportation options, the better for the county.”
Misenheimer noted that one-third of Kannapolis residents live in Rowan County.
The Monday-through-Friday service starts April 6.
The fee is $1 each way. Passengers wanting to transfer to the Kannapolis or Salisbury transit systems will get a free pass.
Riders must have exact change either in bills or coins.
