Rowan County nominations are now being accepted for the 2009 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards.
This year marks the 31st anniversary of the program recognizing North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers. Through the years, North Carolinians have proven their concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local communities.
Each county selects five individuals, businesses and/or groups to be recognized for outstanding contributions to their communities.
One of the five recipients will be nominated to receive the North Carolina Outstanding Volunteer Medallion. A local volunteer committee evaluates the nominations.
Nomination forms are available at the Rowan County United Way office at 1930 W. Jake Alexander Blvd. Anyone who has questions or wishes to request a nomination form can call Jackie Harris at 704-633-1802.
To request an electronic form, e-mail Harris at jharris@rcunitedway.org. The deadline for nominations is July 1, 2009.
