Marine PFC Landon Wilhite of Granite Quarry, having graduated from 1st Battalion, Bravo Company, boot camp at Parris Island, S.C., Jan. 30, 2009 and Marine Engineering School at Camp Lejeune Aug. 4, 2009, was promoted to Lance Corporal.While at Parris Island, he underwent 13 weeks of military combat and occupational specialty training. He earned a meritorious promotion to private first class, a Rifle Sharpshooter ribbon and was awarded a National Defense ribbon.
After Parris Island, Wilhite was assigned to Camp Geiger for advanced military combat training. Next he graduated from engineering school at Camp Lejeune. He will be leaving shortly for his new duty station, Okinawa, Japan, where he will be for two years.
Wilhite is a 2008 graduate of East Rowan High School where he lettered four years on the swim team and two years on the cross country team. He was also a member of the high school ROTC program.He is the son of Chuck and Melissa Wilhite and grandson of Wayne and Shirley Wilhite and Rod and Lenda Hanson.
