March for Babies still accepting donations

A lot of folks turned out for Saturday’s March for Babies event, and organizers say they are not finished. Contributions can still be made to support the March of Dimes.
Each week in North Carolina, 311 babies are born premature. In 2009, March of Dimes North Carolina Chapter is investing more than $3.6 million to improve the health of babies through national research grants, community grants and local public and professional education.
This is made possible by funds raised in March for Babies, formerly WalkAmerica.
Catawba College President Craig Turner said organizers are grateful to everyone who contributed so the March of Dimes can provide help and hope for babies and their families.
“The March of Dimes is not immune to the economic climate. Here in Rowan County, March for Babies isn’t over until we reach our goal. It’s not too late to make a contribution at marchforbabies. org,” Turner said.
Karl Hales, a retired Catawba professor and member of the Rowan County Optimists, said the March of Dimes and Optimists have similar missions.
Sponsors of the Rowan County March for Babies are the Rowan County Optimists Club, Salisbury Pediatrics, F&M Bank, Century 21 Town & Country, Bank of North Carolina and Woodson, Sayers, Lawther, Short, Parrott, Walker & Abramson LLP.
