CONCORD ó An Archer Road resident was stabbed in the early morning darkness by someone trying to steal his lawn mower.
Anthony Ellis of 10633 Archer Road, was letting his dogs go outside for a bathroom break shortly before 2 a.m.
The dogs began barking and Ellis went outside to see what they were barking at, according to a press release from the Cabarrus Sheriff’s Office. He walked to an outbuilding and noticed it had been forced open.
When Ellis went to close the building he saw “a shape” come at him and felt a pain in his upper abdomen, causing him to fall to the ground.
When he made it back to the residence, he told his wife he had been attacked and discovered he had an object sticking out of his upper abdomen, just below the rib cage.
His wife, Teresa Ellis, called 911 for assistance, with the Cabarrus EMS and Odell Volunteer Fire Department responding.
Ellis was transported to CMC-NorthEast for treatment.
The criminal investigation division of the Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident with the Kannapolis Police providing a K-9 unit to search.
Ellis was not able to provide any description of the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Division at 704-920-3057 or Cabarrus County Crime Stoppers at 704-932-7463.
