SPENCER ó A vehicle overturned on a quiet residential street in Spencer Friday morning. The accident happened when the driver ran off the road and struck a tree.
Michael Cortner, 35, of Spencer, was treated and released at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
He was not charged. Officers said neither alcohol nor drugs were involved in the accident.
Officer Nicholas Pacilio of the Spencer Police Department said Cortner apparently momentarily took his eyes off the road and his 2004 Dodge Durango veered right before jumping the curb.
It then brushed a guide wire that supports a power pole before striking a tree and overturning.
“The car just rolled over on its side,” Pacilio said.
The accident happened in the 300 block of Fifth Street, close to Calvary Lutheran Church. Cortner was traveling east.
The speed limit along the stretch is 20 mph.
