Salisbury Police charged 29-year-old Dashon Kyle Johnson with first-degree murder Tuesday evening in the shooting death last week of Tyrone Angle Jr.
Johnson was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center without bond. Officer N.T. Sides also charged Johnson with possession of a firearm by a felon.
Reports at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office listed Johnson’s address only as the streets of Salisbury.
Angle, 16, was shot to death the night of May 5 during an exchange of gunfire in the 900 block of West Horah Street. Police were called to the scene around 10:43 p.m. to shots fired in the area.
A police officer found Angle shot once in the upper body. He was lying in a vacant lot.
Angle was walking with his cousin, Raylin Woodruff, 17, of Winston-Salem, when the shooting occurred.
Police said the incident was not a drive-by shooting and that the parties involved were all on foot.
Johnson received a sentence of 36 months supervised probation on March 2, 2005, when he pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine ó a Class H felony.
The drug crime was committed Feb. 11, 2004.
