Man arrested for indecent liberties with 15-year-old

Staff report
A man who approached a 15-year-old at a library and made sexual overtures has been arrested on attempted indecent liberties with a minor.
Terry Shaunfield, 47, of 2172 Old Beatty Ford Road, China Grove was arrested Thursday and placed in the Rowan County Jail under $1,500 bond.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Tadlock South Rowan Branch of the Rowan Public Library on Kimball Road where a 15-year-old girl said a white male had approached her and had asked her to engage in inappropriate behavior.
The girl told the deputy that she had witnessed the suspect rubbing his groin area while sitting beside her.
The suspect then got up and began rubbing her back, and then presented her with a note asking her to go into the study room to kiss him.
She refused and ran out the back door of the library. The library staff identified the man through security cameras recording.
Investigator Jason Whitley obtained a warrant on Wednesday.
Anyone with information about this case or any similar incidents can contact Investigator Jason Whitley at 704-216-8712 or Lt. Chad Moose at 704-216-8687.
