Legion Baseball: Rowan makes World Series

SUMTER, S.C. ó A balk in the bottom of the eighth inning with the bases loaded brought in the winning run and gave Rowan County’s Legion team the Southeast Regional championship with a 3-2 win over Alabama on Monday night.
Winning pitcher Billy Veal finished off Tuscaloosa in the top of the ninth to give Rowan (37-8) a berth in the American Legion World Series in Fargo, N.D.
Rowan is scheduled to play the 8 p.m. game (10 p.m. Salisbury time) on Friday night.
This is the third time Rowan has made the World Series, joining the 1955 and 1996 teams.
