Staff report
The Kannapolis Fire Department has named their officer and firefighter of the year. Both were chosen based on their outstanding service to the citizens of Kannapolis.
The Larry C. Phillips Fire Officer of the Year Award was presented to Captain Kirk Beard.
Beard holds an associate’s degree in fire protection technology and has worked in the fire service since the age of 14. He has been a member of KFD for 10 years. He and his wife, Kisha, have a six-year-old daughter, Kaylee, and reside in Kannapolis.
Engineer Todd Morris has been recognized with the Danny E. Scott Firefighter of the Year Award. He has been a member of KFD for more than two decades. He and his wife, Tiffany, have two children, Brittany and Matthew.
“We started this award program to recognize not only the dedicated and professional staff of our department, but also the long record of service from former Chief Phillips and Assistant Chief Scott,” said Kannapolis Fire Chief Ernie Hiers. “Both of our recipients embody the characteristics inherent with the mission of our organization and are very deserving honorees.”
