KANNAPOLIS ó Kannapolis City Council will hear an update about $3.2 million in downtown water system improvements at a 6 p.m. meeting Monday at the train station.
Construction should start in January. The water project includes improvements along Main Street, Oak Avenue, First Street, West Avenue, Vance Avenue, West A Street and West B Street.
City staff has prepared a communications plan to keep the owners, merchants, residents and public informed about construction schedules, temporary road closures and more.
Funding will come from the combination of an EPA grant (a maximum of $477,900), an economic development initiative grant from HUD ($198,000) and the upcoming interim tax-increment financing bond sale.
On Monday, Council also will hold a public hearing on the 2008-09 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report, as well as award a contract for the Dakota Street Culvert Replacement project.
Members will consider amendments to the city’s Water Emergency Management Ordinance and amend the Industrial Development Grant Program.
