The 12th Annual Run/Walk for the Greenway 5K and half-mile fun run are scheduled for Saturday, July 25, at Knox Middle School. The event is presented by the Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department and the Salisbury Rowan Runners Club.
The 5K starts at 8 a.m. and will proceed down the greenway and into Eagle Heights. The loop course will return along the same route and finish on the track. Only one short hill keeps the course from being completely flat. The fun run will follow at 8:45 a.m. with two laps on the track.
Race director Steve Clark, long known for his fine post-race refreshments, door prizes, and goody bags, plans more of the same. Food and drink sponsors include Krispy Kreme, Chick Fil-A, Biscuitville, Food Lion, Monster Energy, and Cheerwine.
Major sponsors are Rowan Regional Medical Center, Xerox, Sportrax (formerly Athlete’s Foot), Knox Middle School, and the Rowan County YMCA.
Pre-event registration is open until Wednesday with fees of $15 for the 5K and $5 for the fun run. Race day registration opens at 7 a.m. with fees of $20 and $10. Awards will be presented in 14 age groups, and all 5K participants will receive a dri-fit T-shirt.
All event proceeds will go toward completion of the Salisbury Greenway project.
The race is on the Central Piedmont Grand Prix, a series of races throughout the year within 50 miles of Salisbury.
Shoe and food donations will be accepted for Rowan Helping Ministries. All donation participants receive a chance to win a pair of running shoes from Vac and Dash in Albemarle.
