LANDIS ó Fire ravaged a single-family house at 500 N. Central Ave. Sunday night.
Firefighters from Landis and four other departments quickly went into a defensive mode after responding at 9:20 p.m.
By 9:42, the roof in the center part of the house where the fire started collapsed, and all companies pulled out to fight the fire from the outside.
The house’s chimney also fell in not long into the fire.
Departments remained on the scene late Sunday. The fire was reported under control at 10:42 p.m.
Property records show the owners of the house as Wade H. and Gloria J. Cook of 5703 Ashland Road, Kannapolis.
According to Post reports from Feb. 12, the last known resident of the house was J.T. Hall, 33, who Landis Police charged with using a brick to rob a Kannapolis man of $1,600 at the Center Motel on North Cannon Boulevard in Kannapolis.
Authorities had placed Hall in the Rowan County Detention Center under $50,000 bond after that incident.
The 1,737-square-foot house dates back to 1904 and is located at the corner of North Central Avenue and East Taylor Street.
The Enochville, China Grove, Kannapolis and Bostian Heights departments assisted Landis on the scene.
