A father and daughter arrested in April have had their cases continued to July 13.
Damon Lee Bingamon and his daughter, 16-year-old Avalon Sky Bingamon, were scheduled to appear in a Rowan County courtroom Monday.
Damon Bingamon, who was arrested on charges of injury to personal property and second-degree trespassing, was initially detained by Salisbury Police Officer M.E. Lawing for breaking a mirror in the restroom of Baylee’s Steakhouse.
Released a few hours later when a friend posted bail, Bingamon demanded to file a complaint for the “mistreatment” he claimed occurred during his confinement. Bingamon said the officer refused his requests for blankets and a cup for water. Bingamon said he resorted to drinking from the shower in his cell.
“He was wet and his right and left arm had bruise marks” after his release, Avalon Bingamon said.
Bingamon explained he got wet drinking from the shower, but he said his bruises came from being “manhandled.”
After trying to file a complaint at several locations, Bingamon and his daughter arrived at the Rowan County Detention Center. According to a department report, Bingamon “repeatedly pressed the intercom button and cursed at jail officers.” He and his daughter were asked to leave the premises but refused, the report said. He was charged with second-degree trespassing.
With no transportation and a dead cell phone, Avalon Bingamon approached her father while he was being re-arrested. The officer warned her and then proceeded to arrest her for resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer. She spent several hours in jail.
