CONCORD ó U.S. Rep. Larry Kissell’s district office in Concord will host a fair-housing event on Saturday.
Congressional caseworkers and agents from Prosperity Unlimited, Inc. will be giving free counseling for homeowners at every stage of ownership, from the purchase of a home to the early and later stages of foreclosure.
Kissell said his office was hosting the event to help keep homeowners in their homes and avoid bankruptcy.
“Few things distress or disrupt a family any more than being faced with losing a home,” he said. “I encourage as many people as are able to come and let us try and help them stay in their homes, and out of bankruptcy.”
This event is open and free to the public, though participants must make appointments.

In addition to individual consultations, there will be discussion sessions at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and noon.
During the discussion sessions, agents and caseworkers will cover topics such as down-payment and closing-cost assistance for new home purchases, and how to best review a loan document to avoid foreclosure.
