Are you planning to can this year? Have you had your pressure canner gauge tested? When was the last time you had your pressure canner gauge tested for accuracy? If you can’t remember then it has been too long.
Dial pressure canner gauges should be tested for accuracy at least once a year. Inaccurate gauges can lead to improperly processed food. Food that is not properly processed can cause food-borne illness.
The Rowan Agriculture Center will offer free canner testing. Bring your dial pressure canner lid with gauge for testing while you wait.
Testing will be held each Monday and Thursday beginning May 4 through June 8. Testing times for Mondays are 1 to 3 p.m. and Thursdays 9 a.m. to noon. No appointment is needed. The center is located at 2727 Old Concord Road and can be reached at 704-216-8970.
