ESPN crew filming at Rowan fair races

Del Stewart, the uncle of NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, will drive in the second Figure 8 race tonight at the Rowan County Agricultural and Industrial Fair.
Fair officials also have learned that an ESPN film crew will be on hand Wednesday to document the Figure 8 races.
Members of NASCAR pit crews are among the Figure 8 drivers.
Footage from the fair’s races will be shown throughout the remainder of the NASCAR race season on ESPN.
Sixty-five-year-old Del Stewart lives in Concord and works for Stewart-Haas Racing. He ran two seasons of Arena Racing at Cricket Arena in 2006 and 2007. He has also driven in demolition derbies and enduro races over the years.
Del Stewart said in a press release races “for the fun of it.”
Sponsors for his Figure 8 car include Cheerwine, Wink’s BBQ, Tilley Harley Davidson of Salisbury, Cruisin’ Carolina Magazine, Chrome Zone, Sprinkles Complete Truck Repair and Ervin Glass Systems.
The Figure 8 races start at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a Powder Puff Demolition Derby. The fairgrounds are on Julian Road.
