Beginning in August, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will offer high school students tuition-free courses online.
The new “Learn & Earn Online” program will let students earn tuition-free college credits while they complete high school.
“RCCC’s Learn & Earn Online program will give motivated high school students a tuition-free head-start on their college education and career goals,” said Brenda Moon, RCCC dean of academic support services. “The Learn & Earn Online program also will be a good option for students and families looking for ways to reduce the cost of college.”
The program is for high school students in grades 9-12. It is endorsed by the state of North Carolina, the North Carolina Community College System and the University of North Carolina system. Students who begin taking online courses at RCCC early in high school could earn their first two years of college credit by the time they graduate from high school.
“Learn & Earn students will take their RCCC courses online, greatly reducing the need to travel to campus. They can complete their coursework from wherever they have a computer and Internet access,” Moon said
Any North Carolina high school student can enroll in Learn & Earn Online. The college suggests students talk with their high school guidance counselors now about the program and which RCCC courses are most appropriate for the students’ future. Students also should visit the Web site at www.rowancabarrus.edu and the Learn & Earn Online Web page at www.rowancabarrus .edu/gateway2college/learn_online/ to see the application and enrollment process.
Students who want to enroll for the 2009 fall semester must complete an application and multiple placement tests by early June. RCCC’s 2009 fall semester starts Aug. 17.
