Education: First United Church of Christ scholarships

First United Church of Christ recently awarded seven scholarships to members of its congregation.
The $1,000 merit scholarships were given to those students who are full time and are enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning.
Those receiving scholarships for the first time are Drew Laurens, a freshman at Catawba College; Hayley Mikkelson, a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Allison Lee, a freshman at Winthrop University.
Renewed scholarships were given to Wesley Parrish, a junior at UNC-Charlotte; Rebecca Schiemann, a sophomore at East Carolina University; Catherine Schiemann, a senior at UNC-Greensboro; Andrew Carpenter, a junior at UNC-Charlotte.
Hayley Mikkelson and Wesley Parrish were granted the Southern Conference Scholarship presented by the Women of the Southern Conference. The Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ is composed of all of North Carolina and eastern Virginia. Only eight scholarships were awarded.
