The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a citizens’ informational workshop on Tuesday, July 28, regarding construction of an additional North Carolina Railroad track between Reid and north Kannapolis.
The informal meeting will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. at the China Grove Community Building, 412 S. Myrtle St. Citizens are invited to drop in and speak with NCDOT officials about the project. There will not be a formal presentation. Comments received during the workshop will be considered as project plans are refined.
NCDOT proposes to construct an additional railroad track adjacent to the existing track along the North Carolina Railroad between Reid (south of Salisbury) and north Kannapolis. The proposed improvements begin approximately a half-mile north of Peach Orchard Road (State Road 2359) and extend to just south of East 22nd Street (S.R. 1254) in Kannapolis.
Minor railroad alignment changes and safety improvements are also being considered. The additional track will improve train travel and minimize congestion on the existing rail line between Greensboro and Charlotte.
