Dispute leads to stabbing, intimidation charges

KANNAPOLIS ó An ongoing dispute between neighbors off Unity Church Road has led to a stabbing and multiple charges, including ethnic intimidation.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office has charged Watson Odell Sartain, 57, of 8720 Dogwood Drive, Kannapolis, with three counts of communicating threats, one count of second-degree trespass, one count of indecent exposure and two counts of ethnic intimidation.
Johnny Ray Sartain, 38, 8225 Dogwood Drive, was also stabbed in the midst of the dispute.
Capt. John Sifford of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said there is some type of ongoing dispute between Mark Culbertson and Ben Purefoy, both of 8460 Dogwood Drive, and the Sartains.
Sifford said deputies were called Saturday night to the Culbertson residence. Deputies removed Johnny Sartain and Watson Sartain from the Culbertson property.
Once deputies left, Sifford said the Sartains returned to the Culbertson residence, where Johnny Sartain was stabbed after he pulled a knife.
Sifford said Johnny Sartain had also attacked Purefoy.
According to the report, Watson Sartain threatened to shoot both Culbertson and Purefoy.
Sifford said Watson Sartain make racial statements and exposed himself.
He is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center under $20,000 bond.
Deputies seized guns and ammunition from Watson’s Sartain’s residence.
