Contestants sought for Cabarrus pageants

The Miss Cabarrus County Scholarship Committee is seeking contestants for this year’s pageants, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, in the Mount Pleasant High School auditorium.
Miss Cabarrus County and Miss Cabarrus County’s Outstanding Teen are local qualifiers for Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen.
“The Miss America Organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women,” Executive Director Deanna Barnhart said. “Our Miss Cabarrus County pageant gives contestants the opportunity to experience the spirit of competition and personal growth, along with giving them a sense of personal pride and accomplishment that comes with community service.”
Mallory Honeycutt, of Salisbury, is Miss Cabarrus County for 2009. Mindy Pope is Miss Cabarrus County Outstanding Teen.
The Miss Cabarrus pageant is open to women, who live, work or attend school in Cabarrus and Rowan counties. Women who are age 17 and at least a high school senior and no older than 24 on Dec. 31, 2010, are eligible to compete.
Both pageant winners will be advancing to compete in Raleigh for state titles in June 2010.
The Miss Cabarrus pageant will include five areas of competition: private interview, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit, talent, evening wear and on-stage question.
The Outstanding Teen pageant is for girls 13-17 who are not high school seniors and is open to contestants who live in North Carolina. The entry fee is $150.
The Youth Division pageant, which is a fundraiser for the program, will be held the same day and is open to youth who live in North Carolina. Information and an entry form is available on the pageant Web site, www.misscabarruscounty.com.
Katherine Southard, Miss North Carolina for 2009, and Katherine Puryear, 2009 North Carolina Outstanding Teen will be special guests at this year’s Miss Cabarrus County pageant.
A reception and production rehearsal will be held 2 p.m.-4 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the Cabarrus Country Club, 3247 Weddington Road, Concord. Participants in the Miss Cabarrus, Outstanding Teen and Youth division pageant will honored there.
The deadline for contestants to submit photos and paperwork for the Miss Cabarrus County and Outstanding Teen pageants is Oct. 21.
For the Youth Division pageant, the deadline for a contestant’s name to be listed in program book is Oct. 28. The final deadline for application and fees to be turned in is Nov. 4.
