City Council to decide on waterline contract for Majolica and Harrison road areas

Salisbury City Council will be asked Tuesday to approve a $400,612 contract for RAM Development of Mooresville Inc. to install waterlines and other infrastructure in the Majolica and Harrison road areas annexed into the city in July 2007.
RAM was the low bidder among 19 companies, and its amount is below initial engineering estimates.
RAM is currently installing water and sewer improvements in the Old Mocksville Road annexation area of 2007.
Council meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 217 S. Main St.
In other agenda items Tuesday, council will:
– Receive the proposed 2009-2010 budget and set a public hearing on it for June 2.
– Execute a stand-alone structure agreement for poles, conduits and rights of way with AT&T, the state of North Carolina and the city of Salisbury.
With its fiber-optic utility project, the city has determined that some of its cable will have to be located on poles owned by AT&T. The city already has negotiated a pole attachment agreement with Duke Energy.
– Hold a public hearing regarding an extra $82,747 available to the city’s Community Development Block Grant program through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
– Consider removing a one-hour parking restriction from the east side of the 500 block of North Lee Street.
– Hear a report on the effectiveness of using electronic sales, such as eBay, vs. the cost of an annual auction in the city’s disposing of surplus property.
– Consider a resolution endorsing the 2009 Solid Waste Management Plan for Rowan County.
– Consider amending the Uniform Construction Standards Manual.
– Consider a budget amendment reflecting $19,409 in donations received by the Parks and Recreation Department.- Receive an application from Steven R. Poole and Ashley Honeycutt for a permit to have pool tables at 612 S. Main St. and set a public hearing for June 2.
– Consider closing the 100 block of South Church Street from 1 to 11 p.m. June 6 for the annual Pops at the Post concert.
– Will recognize the Summer Youth Employment Program.
