CHINA GROVE ó Police have charged a student at Carson High School with possession of weapons and marijuana.
Tyler Lynn Starnes, 17, 580 Eastside Drive, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at the school. He faces charges of possession of a weapon on school property and simple possession of marijuana, both misdemeanors.
In addition, a 15-year-old juvenile faces a juvenile petition for marijuana possession.
Police Chief Hodge Coffield said the arrest came after Resource Officer N.M. Stillwell was tipped off that juveniles were exchanging controlled substances in the parking lot.
Around 2:30 p.m. when Stillwell approached the car in which Starnes and the juvenile were sitting, he smelled the odor of marijuana.
He searched the vehicle and found a pocket knife and a hunting knife. Stillwell also found marijuana in the juvenile’s pocket.
