The 2009 fall session of the Beginning Runners Program will begin Thursday at the Salisbury Civic Center. The program is sponsored by the Salisbury Rowan Runners Club and Salisbury Parks and Recreation.
Cost is $35, payable on the first night of class. Class sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. on each of eight consecutive Thursday nights.
Participants will remain in a classroom session for the first 30 minutes each night and then will go out to run/walk for increasing periods up to a class goal of a 5K run on the night of Oct. 22. After the final session, there will be a graduation ceremony complete with a diploma and refreshments.
Classroom sessions will include talks by Salisbury Rowan Runners members on program goals, running shoes and equipment, running form, nutrition, stretching and strengthening, safety and suggestions for how to continue running after class completion.
The $35 fee includes all sessions of the program, a T-shirt, entry into one Salisbury Rowan Runners 5K races and club membership for one year. All of these purchased separately are worth more than $65. Individual instruction will be given to each runner throughout the program.
